Iron Meridian
Iron Meridian asks for patience, and it repays it. You start with a single settlement on a fractured continent and expand outward, balancing food, industry and a diplomacy web that can turn on you the moment you overextend. I lost my first three campaigns and enjoyed every collapse.
The interface is the real achievement. Fitting a 4X game onto a phone usually means cutting depth, but here the menus are layered so newcomers see the essentials and veterans can drill into supply lines and morale. Matches can be paused and resumed, which suits mobile perfectly — I played most of one campaign in ten-minute chunks.
It's not fast and it's not flashy, so if you want instant gratification look elsewhere. For anyone who likes drawing up a plan and watching it slowly pay off, this is a rare thing on mobile.
My only wish is a faster late-game turn speed, because empire management gets clicky once you're big.
What we liked
- Genuine 4X depth on a touchscreen
- Pause-anywhere design that fits mobile life
- AI that punishes reckless expansion
